The CAB pays tribute to a once-familiar piece of Hawaiʻi’s everyday streetscape: the dedicated taxi telephones that could be found at hotels, shopping centers, and other busy public places around Honolulu. Long before calling a ride from a smartphone, picking up one of these phones provided a direct connection to a local cab dispatcher.

As mobile phones gradually made dedicated taxi phones obsolete, most disappeared with little ceremony; a few survived long enough to become curious remnants of an earlier Honolulu.
