Ala Wai Hale celebrates one of the distinctive midcentury apartment buildings lining the Ala Wai Canal in Waikīkī. Built in 1966, the compact structure reflects the wave of residential development that transformed the neighborhood during Hawaiʻi’s postwar boom.
Rather than Waikīkī’s grand hotels and familiar landmarks, the piece turns its attention toward the everyday architecture of the neighborhood—the apartments, lanais, palms, and tropical modern details that give its residential streets their character.
Rendered in a limited blue-and-cream palette and Solario’s textured, print-inspired style, Ala Wai Hale captures a quieter side of Waikīkī and the midcentury architecture woven into its streetscape.
