Moana Hotel

Created for a private client in Japan, Moana Hotel depicts Waikīkī’s historic “First Lady,” framed by palms and the setting sun. The piece pairs the hotel’s ornate architecture with a warm sherbet gradient of coral, orange, and yellow, evoking the glow of an evening in Waikīkī.
Opened in 1901, the Moana Hotel was the first major resort hotel in Waikīkī and remains one of the neighborhood’s defining landmarks. Its grand façade has endured through more than a century of change along Kalākaua Avenue and today forms the historic heart of the Moana Surfrider.
Rendered in Solario’s textured, print-inspired style, the illustration celebrates both the architectural character of old Waikīkī and the tropical atmosphere surrounding it.
