Mac Nuts * Waiwai 'Aina Series 1
Mac Nut — Waiwai ʻĀina Series 1
2024
Mac Nut is one of four works from Nā Hua ʻEhā (Four Fruits), the first collection in Solario’s Waiwai ʻĀina series celebrating the plants, foods, and agricultural imagery of Hawaiʻi.
Originally created in 2024 as part of a commissioned concept, the four illustrations—ʻulu, lilikoʻi, mac nut, and hala—ultimately took on a life of their own. Later that year, Solario brought the series to Osaka for the Hankyu World Fair, where the works were featured in the event’s official visual presentation and received an enthusiastic response from audiences.
The series pairs familiar Hawaiʻi fruits and plants with Solario’s print-inspired approach: limited palette, strong graphic forms, and the texture and irregularity of traditional relief printing.
Mac Nut depicts clusters of macadamia nuts still growing among their leaves, rendered in warm orange and muted green.
